Francis Cardinal Arinzé, the Prefect of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, was in St. Louis this weekend to speak to many groups concerning matters of liturgical worship in the Roman Rite of the Holy Catholic Church.
Today he visited Kenrick-Glennon Seminary during the evening, speaking to seminarians and priests of the Archdiocese (and other Dioceses) about prayer, liturgy, and the Church, and answering questions. He was a very powerful, and often humerous, speaker, and I would assume that my brother seminarians agree with me that this visit was very enriching and enlightening.
I have pictures of the event, and there may be some audio recordings posted on the Kenrick-Glennon Seminary website soon—I'll post back with more details later. For now, here's a picture with me and a classmate with Cardinal Arinzé at the Seminary:
Please spare some prayers today for the many citizens in Missouri who will be negatively affected by the passage of Amendment 2.
Pray for the many women who will become 'egg donors' and be paid a 'reasonable compensation,' for the sake of scientific research.
Pray for the many human embryos who will become guinea pigs and will be denied rights to a basic human life, for the sake of scientific research.
Pray for the people of Missouri to realize that they've been duped and told a lie, namely, that 'cloning only involves the implantation of an embryo in a mother's uterus,' for the sake of scientific research. (SCNT (Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer) is cloning, no matter what the backers of Amendment 2 say).
Pray for the researchers who will struggle with the decision to create and destroy these human embryos, for the sake of scientific research.
Pray that our nation may get its priorities straightened out.
Finally, pray that other states may defeat similar amendments and propositions in upcoming elections.
I recently viewed a video of a talk entitled The Truth by Fr. Larry Richards, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Erie, Pennsylvania. I had recently heard Fr. Richards speak at this summer's Steubenville St. Louis Mid-America, and was interested in seeing this video because of how well Fr. Richards seems to relate to his audience and get across a solid Catholic message. The video's a bit long, but it's worth every minute:
In Missouri, we will be having one of the most important elections in recent years because of our vote on Amendment 2. This amendment is very dangerous, and it seems that there are many forces working to try to get the amendment passed.
Without getting into the details, I'll just say that it's a scary amendment because it not only allows 'therapeutic' cloning (it only bans 'reproductive' cloning...), but it's also bad law. For a detailed analysis of the issue, check out www.nocloning.org.
I am going to take a break from the blogging community for a small while (at least a month). Please continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and keep me and all seminarians in your prayers!
(In the meanwhile, please check out Dawn Eden's blog, The Dawn Patrol, and Jeff Miller's 'The Curt Jester' - they're two of my favorite blogs!).
