Souls and Goals - 2015 Soccer Game

STEAL NOTHING BUT PHOTOGRAPHS: 2014 - Souls and Goals &emdash; Souls and Goals-103

The 'Souls and Goals' soccer match is now in its third year! The Kenrick-Glennon Seminary Lions will battle against the Clergy and Company team (comprised of a bunch of priests and a few friends, like me!).

The game will be held at St. Dominic High School on Thursday, November 5, with a kickoff at 7 p.m. The game is free to anyone, and concessions will be available. More info is available on the Souls and Goals website (with a fresh new design for 2015).

I'll be playing in goal again this year (as part of the 'and Company' on the Clergy side), wearing my Vatican-yellow jersey! The Seminarians won the past two Cups—we'll see if we can pull off a victory this year!

Kenrick Plaza Walmart Redevelopment - April 2015

[Update: The Walmart should open on September 23. Here are more recent pictures from the development.]

In October, I gave an October 2014 update Walmart redevelopment at Kenrick Plaza in Shrewsbury, MO. Since it's been about six months, I figured I'd post another little update here, along with some pictures I took of the land, which now has the main Walmart structure in place, and is finally taking shape!

Kenrick Plaza - New Entrance sign

View of the half-finished entrance, turning right from Watson Rd. (westbound). So far it's hard to see how pedestrian access will be routed, and where bus stops will be located (especially with the temporary access road in place), but the new sign is a bit larger than the old sign, and so far just has 'First Bank' listed.

As a resident of the City of Shrewsbury for the past 10 years, and someone who lives within walking distance of the old Kenrick Plaza development that was basically in ruins until it was torn down this year, I've taken a keen interest in the Walmart-anchored redevelopment that is being financed through TIF.

"Noli irritare leonem" – Don't disturb the lion

Someone shared a link to slides from a recent lecture put on by Credo St. Louis by Rev. Michael Witt concerning religious liberty and the current furor over the HHS contraception mandate.

Noli Irritare Leonem - Crest of Archbishop Peter Richard Kenrick

During the presentation, Fr. Witt spoke of the episcopal motto of Archbishop Kenrick, Noli irritare leonem (seen in the picture of his crest above, which I took during a visit to the Old Cathedral a few years ago). It is translated, "Don't disturb the lion," and conveys a special message today: don't try stripping us [Catholics] of our religious liberty, or you'll get the full force of our fury!*
